Berks JAMFest 2010 – November 5th & 6th – The Silo

PlusVibes Productions has teamed up with Gig Goals to provide one of the most exciting ventures in its short history in bringing you another premier event in Reading, Pennsylvania.
We are proud to announce our first “official” indoor 2-day multi-band event:
Berks JAMFest 2010
November 5th & 6th at The Silo Nightclub
Not to be confused with world renowned Berks Jazz Fest, Berks JAMFest will be a two-day [non-camping] event with the top musical jamband acts - bluegrass, rock, reggae, and electronica – that have been the powerhouse shows at The Brass Lantern and other Pennsylvania venues over recent years.
But, that’s not all.
+VIBES always tries to step it up a notch, so we’re also bringing in two headlining national touring acts that have graced some of the biggest stages and festivals across the nation and beyond.
Berks JAMFest will feature two floors of alternating non-stop music at The Silo Nightclub, festival-style with music from 6pm until 2am on Friday and then 1pm until 2am on Saturday. All concert-goers must vacate the building and parking area by 2:30am each night and all non-Reading residents are advised to stay in one of the 50 hotels within 25 miles of the venue.
We also encourage all concert-goers to have a designated [sober] driver or use one of our fine taxi services!
And +VIBES didn’t forget about our local business & arts scene! There will be vendors on both floors with art & sculpture, clothing & jewelry, and much more. Our friends at Dragonfly Studio & Glass will also be tattooing and piercing on the premises [liability waiver must be signed]. Food vendors are also in the process of being worked out to ensure that everyone can eat and relax and enjoy the entire day of the best music around.
Friday night the event will kick off at 6pm, just in time for you to grab some dinner and hit the dance floor for artists including HogMaw, Flux Capacitor, and CopperTonic then headlining the evening, and returning to Reading after many years away is The Recipe.
Hailing from the musically rich Mid-Atlantic region, The Recipe sprung onto the scene in 1995 with their debut CD, “LOVE MARBLE HOE DOWN”, introducing listeners to a fresh mix of insightful songwriting and superb musicianship. What came next was a non-stop touring schedule resulting in a fan base that is the envy of bands everywhere. The band’s high-energy live shows have fortified their stature considerably on the national club and festival circuit. Sometime during the early winter of 1995 in Morgantown, West Virginia, singer-songwriter Joe Prichard started to break into the local music scene with a louder voice.
After several years of honing his craft in the bars and coffee shops of North Central West Virginia his remarkable ability to combine the organic presence of Appalachian roots music with a solid pop-rock swagger, has for over a decade since captivated all who have listened. This is evident by the history of his band, The Recipe, and it’s endless survival throughout member changes and other horrific adversities over the last ten years. At the center of this groups survival has always been it’s creator, Joe Prichard. After years of reproving one thing is for certain, his songs have always been the main ingredient.
From the very beginning, The Recipe’s high-energy live shows and good-time vibe have motivated their fans to get up and dance, making the shows part concert and part family reunion. It is this “high-energy, good-time vibe” that attracted +VIBES and we are sure that you will agree!
Saturday the doors re-open at 1pm with artists including the Good Lovin’ Jamband, JAH WORKS, Natural Breakdown, and our good friends Quagmire Swim Team return to the stage for a rare show and a whole day of mind-blowing music again. The icing on the cake is the headliner (and +VIBES favorite) RAQ performing two full sets.
Self-described as high performance rock and roll, RAQ has been going strong since its 2001 inception. With their unique sound, featuring complex song structure coupled with quirky-yet-accessible lyrics and a healthy dose of full-band improvisation, RAQ delivers a strong presence to their loyal fans nationwide.
Hailing from Burlington, Vermont, the band began with the name “Shadraq”, but shortened the name to RAQ before cutting their debut album Shed Tech. The bands unique sound developed while playing to ardent fans in local Burlington clubs.
Over the past several years, RAQ has taken the stage at festivals such as Bonnaroo, High Sierra Music Festival, Langerado, Berkshire Mountain Music Festival, Summer Camp, Gathering of the Vibes, Adirondack Music Festival, New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, Camp Bisco and aboard the floating festival, Jam Cruise.
One of the reasons behind RAQ’s highly successful tour past is due to their compositions being grounded in solid song structures, but still being malleable enough to go in infinite directions in the live setting. This keeps the quartet’s devout following and first time listeners yearning for more as the audience is taken along on the collective journey. Their extensive repertoire of original compositions and eclectic selection of covers give the band the freedom to create a unique set list for every show.
RAQ has never disappointed and this evening will be no different. You are all in for a treat.

Huge Lineup of Music at the Brass Lantern, 4/20-4/29
April 15, 2010 by chrisk
Filed under All Blogs, Event Reviews
Starting on Tuesday, April 20th, the Brass Lantern, in association with PlusVibes Productions, will be hosting a huge lineup of premium artists, with what was supposed to be, the venue’s final five shows.
As reported in a previous blog entitled, “End of an Era: The Brass Lantern To Change Ownership,” the venue was scheduled to be sold to a local sports bar owner on April 30th.
Well, that deal has fallen through and, while some people may think this is a good thing, it is unfortunately not. Though technically back on the market (serious inquiries should contact them immediately), the Brass Lantern is still suffering from the issues discussed in the March blog and now is in serious danger of closing its doors forever, especially as the summer “slow” season approaches.
So the events planned as their “final” performances may continue to be billed as such, because the future of the Brass Lantern as a live music venue is now up in the air. +VIBES encourages everyone to patronize this landmark live music venue and tell a friend (to tell a friend) that the Brass Lantern needs their help to keep its doors open.
The “final” performances will begin on Tuesday, April 20th, with NINE FINGER SALOON performing an early show as part of the “FINAL Taco Tuesday” at the Brass Lantern. 9FS is a musical tribute to the works of Jerry Garcia, with all the members being no strangers to that stage. The music is schedule to start around 9pm.
Thursday, April 22nd is “Customer Appreciation Day” at the Brass Lantern with FREE homemade appetizers from 5pm until 7pm, and $1.25 Miller Light drafts until midnight and West Chester’s high energy dance band, BODEGA. These youngsters have graced the stage at the Brass Lantern many times in their still-rising career, gaining the attention of any conscious music lover in the building. They are raw talented musicians, and they continue to build a loyal following with every show. They hit the stage around 9:30pm (with no cover until they start!).
FROG HOLLER is having their CD Re Release Party on Friday, April 23rd at the Brass Lantern. They have completely remastered and re-packaged “Couldn’t Get Along”, which was the Berks County band’s debut album released in 1998 on the ZoBird label. It was a year or so later when they established a lasting friendship with the Brass Lantern and from that point until now they have undoubtedly provided the highest attended shows there ever. We expect this evening to be like “old times” where it’s standing room only and the place is full of fans singing along to every word. This show starts at 10pm, but we suggest you come early to get your spot!
A semi-reunion show is shaping up for Saturday, April 24th, with some of the members of ALCHEMY coming together to open up for QUAGMIRE SWIM TEAM. We couldn’t (possibly) say goodbye to the Brass Lantern without hosting two bands that have been with +VIBES since its very beginning. This night will be one to remember as all sort of surprises are expected, but one thing is for sure, the Brass Lantern will be full of dancing friends and family.
Not sure how to top all that, so we’d like to think of Thursday, April 29th’s show as the “cherry on top”. What was billed as the “Final Show at the Brass Lantern” before the new ownership has now become possibly the last chance you will have to see Reading-reggae favorite, JAH WORKS at the Brass Lantern. This Baltimore-based band had no idea what they were in store for when they arrived for their first show at the Brass Lantern in 2008. They immediately became part of the +VIBES and Brass Lantern family by putting on one of the best reggae parties ever at the venue. They somehow topped those shows two more times, increasing the attendance and gaining new fans each time, while remaining very humble and grateful for the opportunities. This show is slated to start at 9pm and will be standing room only, so come early and spend an evening with some positive vibrations.
Stay posted to www.plusvibes.comand www.thebrasslanternlive.com for more news regarding the future of the Brass Lantern.

Billed as the DAY After Party for the November 12th show at the Silo Nightclub with 2020Soundsystem and BioDiesel, Reading music fans are treated to a rare performance by rock/electronica veterans Quagmire Swim Team at the Brass Lantern on Friday the 13th of November.
It’s been since February 21st, 2009 since their last appearance anywhere, coincidentally it was at the first PlusVibes event at the Silo Nightclub, opening for the New Deal. What an event that was! It was one of the biggest crowds they have ever played in front of, and they played their hearts out! That tends to happen every time they come to Reading, no matter if it is at the Silo, at the Brass Lantern, at a small private party in Muhlenberg, or on the deck of a superfan’s condo (wink) in Exeter at an after party.
We are so proud that Quagmire Swim Team calls Reading, Pennsylvania their “home away from home”, and we know this will be another magical night of music and friends. There’s no reason to have to pitch it any further, because those who know will surely be there, and those who don’t know – well, you should really find out!
Sharpshooter It looks like this show should be at maximum capacity, so we would like to recommend coming early, and don’t forget to bring your 2020 ticket stub to receive $3 OFF your entry to the Quagmire show.
Also, this event coincides with a grand weekend of PlusVibes sponsored events in the Reading area, with the 2020Soundsystem show on Thursday, Quagmire Swim Team on Friday, the phenomenal microbrew tasting festival called Brewphoria 6, at Canal St. Pub on Saturday early evening, and then ending the weekend right on Saturday with “Albright College Senior Night” at the Brass Lantern
August Rush movie with musical residency “Three’s Company“, featuring DJ Gregg Nyce versus DJ Evolution, with mind blowing visuals by VjcA.
So, we encourage you to spend a weekend in Reading, Pennsylvania.

3 on the Tree and PUSH – THIS Weekend @ The Brass

November kicks the Brass Lantern music schedule into high gear. They have the fireplace roaring every night (when needed) and the fall/winter vibe is in full effect – the scarves, the hats, and the gloves are sure tell signs.
Starting the weekend off on Friday night, November 6th, is local rock band, 3 on the Tree. Performing mostly originals with some recognizable solid covers thrown in each live show, these four good friends show their compatibility with catchy lyrics and fun, dance-able jams.
3 on the Tree hits the Reading circuit pretty actively, with shows at Bertie’s Inn, Bixler’s Lodge, the Reading Phillies First Energy Stadium (spring/summer), and the California Bar & Grill. They have a special performance that Saturday, November 7th at the Turning Leaf Musicfest in Boyertown, sharing the stage with artists that have performed at the Brass Lantern, such as Hillbilly Shakespeare and NiHa Haven.
Saturday brings back Harrisburg area live electro dub step band, PUSH. The dance beats will be flowing this night as the now three piece rolls through Reading again. It’s been a while, but the time gap has enabled some tightening up musically and in numbers (they lost guitarist, Ryan Collins, in August), which gave them room to improve individually while still creating the sound of a 4-piece. As of recent, they have enlisted the help of Ten Tigers‘ guitarist Kyle Hollenger for some of their Fall gigs when he is available.
The change was evident at their recent opening spot for Johnny Raab’s BioDiesel at The Note, a new club in West Chester, Pennsylvania, where they were able to sit back and set a groove, and hit the right middle notes to make every head in that dark room bob for the entire set. PUSH has also recently played gigs at the Spy Club (Harrisburg), Canal Club (Richmond, VA), and River St. Jazz Cafe (Wilkes-Barre). They are bring their similar genre friends Kobra Commander into town for their first time at the Brass on Saturday..

2020Soundsystem and BioDiesel @ The Silo, 11/12

In support of their second album, “Falling“, 2020Soundsystem hits the U.S. in November after touring Europe in September and October, and PlusVibes Productions is proud to host their only Philadelphia-area appearance on Thursday, November 12th, 2009 at the Silo Nightclub
just outside Reading, Pennsylvania.
The 4-piece live electronica band consists of Ralph Lawson (DJ – beats & loops), Danny “Dubble D” Ward (drums), Fernando Pulichino (bass), and Julian Sanza (keys).
Their acclaimed first album “No Order” featured guest vocalists and a live set recorded at Sonar festival. The task of the second album has been to develop the bands own vocals and most importantly to capture the energy and flow of their live performance. 2020Soundsystem have always been about live shows. In fact live gigs came first, even before there were any tracks.
In 2005 the Soundsystem were invited to play the world re-knowned Sonar festival. Not only did they play it but they closed the whole festival on the famous outdoor stage as daylight came up for 10,000 people. This gig really propelled the project and offers now came in from around the world. The band found festivals were the perfect place for a show of their size and have to date played many of the most important ones on the planet including playing to 25,000 people at Exit Serbia and Creamfields Argentina. Other festival highlights include playing at Glastonbury, T in the Park, Creamfields, Global Gathering, Skolbeats Brasil, Sync Athens, and Homelands and Fortdance Russia. клуб откровенного стриптиза
The group already realized that the key to their success was live shows so they arranged to record the set at Sonar including positioning several mics to capture the crowd noise. They now had enough tracks to complete the first album and present it on two discs entitled “Sweatshop Studios” and “Live at Sonar”. 2007 saw the band touring “No Order” across Europe, South America, and Australia.
In 2008, it was another invitation by a festival that opened up another continent, this time America. Camp Bisco 7 in Mariahville, NY proved to be a huge exposure gig for 2020, as people in the U.S., particularly ravers and Disco Biscuits fans, just started to get acquainted with their sound.
Little did Ralph Lawson and the guys know, but the Bisco-attendees were anticipating their late night tent set, and by the time they hit the stage, the tent was fully packed with sweaty dancing bodies, tranced by one of the better late night sets of the weekend.
“We had no idea anyone knew us in America…We closed the whole weekend and hit one of those shows where you can do no wrong,” explains Lawson.
As soon as they walked off stage they were signed by AM only (a major US booking agency) and within the year had clocked up 27 shows in 16 cities.
Reading, PA can soon be added to that list of cities, when 2020 comes to town on Thursday, November 12th. The Silo Nightclub will be the venue to accommodate the live electronica fans.
For those drum & bass fans, PlusVibes is also proud to bring back BioDiesel to the area (for the second time in 2009, so far!). Philadelphia’s favorite bassist Clay Parnell and world reknown percussionist Johnny Rabb will be showcasing their intelligent dance music in support.
There has been much talk about their infamous “Rage Stage” set (’til sunrise) at this year’s Camp Bisco to close out the festival.
Local house, breaks, & dubstep DJ, DJ Spacecase will be setting the mood before the bands and in between sets.

J.Wail vs aNdu and DJ Spacecase, Sept 3rd @ The Brass

Rolling through the Brass Lantern
again on Thursday, September 3rd (this time with a drummer, called aNdu) is touring work-horse Jonah Gabriel Lipsky, aka J. Wail School for Scoundrels ipod , taking the live electronic funk to a higher level.
The Wanderers rip His MySpace blog describes his vibe as, “…[in] the dawn of an age of digital wizardry where gadgets seem to surge in song, congealing in an amalgamation of buzzes, beeps and blips…the pulsing of machines and pounding of concrete and steel in symphonic collage power our world. J. Wail rises to the call of the sonic traffic controller, poised behind a palette of electronic devices with his Telecaster
in hand.”
, although a native New Yorker, has spent extensive time in Asheville, NC and Phoenix, AZ but is now currently based in Denver, CO. At the age of 2, Jonah’s mother passed away leaving behind a beautiful classical guitar that she once played. The cherished guitar was later passed down to him and, although he rarely takes it on stage, the symbol, connection, essence, and inspiration of his mother and her guitar resonates deep within his soul.
J. Wail‘s enthusiasm and strong desire to share and spread his music has earned him a reputation as one of the hardest working, up and coming artists in the touring industry. His current tour has logged over 50,000 road miles, countless air miles, and 150+ shows performed on all corners of the continent, as well as Alaska and Hawaii.
He creates innovative club-funk-rock through innovative techniques using live guitar, bass, vocals, synthesizers, and live electronics. His ability to experiment and improvise nightly has led to several appearances and collaborations with some prominent musicians.
On-stage guest jams have included national artists Michael Travis/Jason Hahn (EOTO/String Cheese Incident), Dean Ween (Ween), Brock Butler (Perpetual Groove), Ekoostik Hookah, Tom Constanten (Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame, ex member of the Grateful Dead), and members of the Brazilian Girls.
J. Wail has performed opening slots for national artists such as Bassnectar, Particle, Perpetual Groove, Toubab Krewe, Boombox, and DJ Le Spam & the Spam Allstars.
In between catching his favorite band, Phish, around the country, J. Wail has still been working hard in 2009, playing stretches of after-parties for acts such as EOTO, Bassnectar, Bob Weir & Ratdog, and even setting up impromptu stages at various Phish show lots, as well as jumping onto as many festivals rosters that he can get into, such as the Tall Tree Lake Festival (Illinois) in June and the upcoming Gemstones Conscious Alliance Benefitin Lowell, Massachusetts on September 4th.
With the addition of a live drummer, aNdu
, to the mix, more creative possibilities opened up for Jonah onstage, and the now “live band” is tearing through cities across the U.S. and beyond!
Special guest, local dance/dubstep DJ, DJ Spacecase will be spinning before the main show and in between sets.

Ohio-Based Electronica, PAPADOSIO @ the Brass, 7/30
July 15, 2009 by chrisk
Filed under All Blogs, Event Reviews
Coming into town for a 2 set showcase on Thursday, July 30th, all the way from Athens, Ohio, is dance/progressive/electronica up-and-comers Papadosio.
After blowing away the Brass Lantern the last time they were in town opening up for and alternating sets with Jeff Bujak (progressive piano electronica), the return date was quickly set. The Papadosio/Bujak show also ended with a tasty 25-minute improvisational super jam with all artists. That entire show can be downloaded at archive.org.
Playing to live audiences since only 2006, the 4-piece band is defined as “experimental jam band combining roots and eclectic styles with modern electronica and dance music”; we think that’s just “fancy talk” for “in-your-face-raging-untz”. Believe me, we welcome the “untz”, but what we most appreciate is the unique combination of electronica with heavy harmonic guitar riffs thrown in there. It is that which makes Papadosio not just an ordinary electronica jam band, and it is that which will help them grow fast on the circuit.
Papadosio released an EP entitled, By The Light of the Stars, and, more recently, a full length album entitled, MACGREENERY. They are supporting it with a heavy Eastern tour including stops in Indian, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Georgia, South Carolina, and as far as Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
Festival appearances include Summerdance at Nelson Ledges
, (p)ARTYFESTY 09 in Detroit, Michigan, the Peace Through Music Festival in Bellfontaine, Ohio, and the Muddy River Jam Festival at Snipes Farm.
With a busy schedule, we are fortunate to have them stop at the Brass Lantern while they are passing through and before “they get too”big”, as they say. This one is for all you Biscuits-Lotus-untz-loving music fans. For a Thursday night in Reading, Pennsylvania, we can say, in full confidence, that this show will be THE best show going on in Reading on Thursday, July 30th, 2009.

Future Rock with SO4 Saturday, May 2, at the Silo

PlusVibes Productions is proud to present the Chicago-based electronica trio, Future Rock, hitting the stage of the Silo Nightclub in Reading, Pennsylvania on Saturday, May 2nd, 2009.
Future Rock is a three-piece electronica band blending intelligent dance music with improvisation to create a down-and-dirty throwdown of electro-proportions.
The last time they were in Reading was at the Brass Lantern
(2007) in northeast Reading and it was considered THE best show ever put on at the Brass, when evaluating the overall performance – overall sound, mixed by their very own Leif Moravy
, overall vibe, and overall visuals, which were provided that night by lighting master, Andy Cass, who has run lights for artists such as the Pnuma Trio and Matisyahu.
Future Rock has been tearing it up on the electronic jamband scene, with shows at every major jamband venue in nearly every [continental] state, and stops in some major jamband festivals, including Camp Bisco 8 and Summer Camp 2009. The latest addition to their schedule is a much desired spot on the second annual Rothbury Festival roster, considered one of the best festivals of 2008 (in only its first installment).
Their album, Gears, was nominated for the 2008 Chicago Music Awards “Best Rock Album/CD”
, up against some very respectable competition.
Clearly at the top of their game right now, and in a setting much more suited for their large fan base, Future Rock will surely put on an epic show this night. Be sure not to miss their only area appearance of April, May, or June!
Supporting the boys that night will be SOOOO (that’s not a typo) which stands for Shout Out Out Out Out, a unique band, not only in name, but also in its members. Its setup includes two percussion sets, four bassists, and two keyboardists, and it brings to the stage a blend of house, electro-pop, and dance punk.
Spinning before and in between sets will be Canadian phenoms Small Town DJs.

BioDiesel with special guest Psylab @ The Brass Lantern
March 18, 2009 by chrisk

FROM CHRIS@PLUSVIBES.COM, 4/13/2009:
The Biodiesel/Psylab show, although fairly thin on turnout (about 90 through the door), was thick on intelligent dance music. With 4+ hours of non-stop music, featuring interlocking sets (and a jam with both bands at the end), everyone in the room could not help but be tired from incessant head-bobbing and trance-like dancing.
Bringing THE hottest Bose cube-and-subwoofer-towers that have ever been onstage at the Brass Lantern, Psylab started things off right with a lounge-ey, chill first set, introducing their style for the first time to the Reading crowd. They warmed up the stage for the deeper, dirtier Biodiesel, where the musicianship & connection onstage was evident.
Clay & Johnny wow-ed the crowd for their first time in the Brass Lantern as well. Deep, bass heavy beats filled the room for their first hour with Psylab keyboardist Neil Larson sitting in on keys for the last third of BioD’s set.
Psylab segued in for their second set and brought the heat. Everyone in that room was treated to some spectacular dance jams and when Biodiesel
segued back into the mix and pounded out an (approximately) 20 minute Michael Jackson techno medley, the crowd was completely feeding off the band ( complete with “woo-hoo’s” during the Billie Jean segment) and the vibe was complete. The icing on the cake was when, to end the show, all members of both bands came onstage for what was improvisational face-melting genius.
Check out internet archive soon for the posting of the shows.
We hope to have bo The Three Lives of Thomasina buy The Poker House movie th bands back as soon as possible. Check our schedule for future Biodiesel and Psylab shows.
And, as always, I thank everyone who made it a great night. Thank you for supporting live music.
Feel free to POST A COMMENT below. I would love to know what YOU thought of the show.
